The Trial of Jesus: Shedding New Light
John W. Welch, law professor at Brigham Young University and Scholar in Residence at USC and the Widtsoe Foundation, will discuss current scholarship regarding the arrest, trial, and execution of Jesus. He will shed new light on perennial questions such as: Who killed Jesus? and Why did they do this? He will explore new questions, including: What did the raising of Lazarus have to do with the arrest of Jesus? What might we learn today about civility and incivility by thinking about the trial of Jesus? Why do all four Gospels give such gruesome details about the crucifixion of Jesus? Was the proceeding legal, illegal, or something else?
