The Trial of Jesus
Widtsoe Distinguished Scholar in Residence and BYU law professor John W. “Jack” Welch will deliver an address about the trial of Jesus four days before Easter. He has researched the trial of Jesus for more than 30 years and published several articles on the subject. As the Robert K. Thomas professor of law at BYU’s J. Reuben Clark Law School, Dr. Welch teaches classes on Jewish, Greek and Roman Law in the New Testament.

Widtsoe Celebration in Norway

Visit John A. Widtsoe’s birthplace in Froya, Norway with a delegation of family and Widtsoe Foundation members.  A bronze statue honoring Widtsoe’s legacy of educational excellence will be unveiled in the town square. Norwegian descendants of John Widtsoe have organized this international event.

Tabernacle in the Wilderness

Celebrate Passover and tour an authentic Old Testament replica of the Jewish Tabernacle in the Wilderness at USC. Dead Sea Scrolls expert Donald Parry and Widtsoe Distinguished Scholar Jack Welch will lead discussions with Jewish faith leaders.

Scholar Symposium

Patrick Mason, Howard W. Hunter Chair of Mormon Studies and Interim Dean of the School of Arts & Humanities, will team with the Widtsoe Foundation to bring author Thomas Simpson to Los Angeles for a discussion of his new book American Universities and the Birth of Modern Mormonism, 1867-1940.  Simpson brings to light the experiences of two generations of Latter-day Saints at elite American universities, including John A Widtsoe’s Harvard schooling.
