About the Event

The John A. Widtsoe Foundation is proud to announce the sixth installment of the Latter-Day Saint – Jewish Academic Dialogue series on February 26-28 at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. This semi-annual event brings together Jewish and Latter-day Saint scholars and clergy from Brigham Young University, Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, Loyola Marymount University, the Academy for Jewish Religion California, the John A. Widtsoe Foundation, and Congregation Kol Ami, Salt Lake City, with the support of these institutions and private donors.

This interfaith dialogue project consists of both private academic discussions and public presentations aimed at building bridges of common ground and friendship between members of the two faiths. The project also aims to promote greater understanding and appreciation for the similarities and differences in belief and worship. A special series of meetings took place in Jerusalem in 2019, which you can read about Here.

Foundation Director and Scholar in Residence Dr. Jacob Rennaker has been a regular member of this dialogue group, representing the Latter-day Saint perspective since the project began in 2016. During the February event, Dr. Rennaker will lead a private scripture reading with the group, and will also be a featured speaker at the public session on Wednesday evening (see below for details). Along with a representative from the Jewish delegation, Dr. Rennaker will discuss scripture reading in an interfaith setting and answer questions about the experience reading together earlier in the day.
