What does it mean to be a religious refugee? How have refugees and displaced peoples held onto their religious traditions? What does this tell us about the future of religious communities?
On April 9th, 2018, the John A. Widtsoe Foundation partnered with the University of Southern California’s Office of Religious Life to host a panel discussion entitled, “Wandering Peoples: Religious Refugees and Displaced Peoples from Ancient Israel to Today” which addressed these important questions.
Participants spoke to the experiences of the Hindu, Mormon, and Armenian religious communities and represented a broad range of religious, historical, and personal reflections on this timely subject.
The panelists included:
- Silva Sevlian, USC Institute of Armenian Studies
- Varun Soni, USC Vice-Provost and Dean of the USC Office of Religious Life
- John W. Welch, Widtsoe Foundation Distinguished Scholar and Professor of Law at Brigham Young University
- Gegham Mughnetsyan, USC Institute of Armenian Studies
