On April 14, 2017, John W. Welch, law professor at Brigham Young University and Scholar in Residence at USC and the Widtsoe Foundation, discussed current scholarship regarding the arrest, trial, and execution of Jesus. He shed new light on perennial questions such as: Who killed Jesus? and Why did they do this? The lecture also explored new questions, including: What did the raising of Lazarus have to do with the arrest of Jesus? What might we learn today about civility and incivility by thinking about the trial of Jesus? Why do all four Gospels give such gruesome details about the crucifixion of Jesus? Was the proceeding legal, illegal, or something else?
